MPAC is thrilled to celebrate the opening of our 11th Annual Spring Production of Newsies, opening tonight and running through Sunday, June 1st!
Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, Newsies tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action as all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.”
MPAC’s spring musical productions present a unique opportunity for young performers to participate in a fully professional production in which they work with a professional crew and guest Equity artists. MPAC’s production of Newsies will feature a dynamic cast of several dozen young performers, directed by Cathy Roy with musical direction by Charles Santoro.
Performance dates:
Friday, 5/30, 7:30pm
Saturday, 5/31, 2pm & 7:30pm
Sunday, 6/1, 12pm* & 5:30pm
*The 12pm performance of Newsies on Sunday, 6/1 is a sensory friendly performance, designed to create a supportive, welcoming experience for people with sensory sensitivities. This performance will feature modulated sound and light levels, a relaxation room, and a relaxed environment where the audience is free to talk, vocalize, and leave and re-enter the seating area. MPAC is also pleased to offer fidget toys and noise reduction headphones at sensory friendly performances.
