June 20 2014

Provident Bank Foundation, sponsor of the 2013-2014 Music Student of the Month (MSOM) Program at Mayo Performing Arts Center, presented MPAC with a $10,000 grant towards the 2014-2015  Music Student of the Month program.  The announcement was made prior to the MSOM end-of-season recital on June 9.

“The Provident Bank Foundation places a strong emphasis on educational programs for the youth in the communities served by Provident Bank,” says Jane Kurek, Executive Director of the Provident Bank Foundation.  “MPAC’s Music Student of the Month program provides an opportunity to recognize talented children who not only are excellent musicians, but exemplify the qualities that will make them future leaders and role models in their communities.”

On Monday, June 9th, twenty-three Morris County middle and high school music students took over the MPAC mainstage for the annual Music Student of the Month Recital. Several hundred people were in attendance and enjoyed the many different musical styles offered including classical, jazz, contemporary and rock. Immediately following the recital, all the music students and guests were invited backstage to the Starlight Room for a special reception in their honor.

Now in its twelfth year, the Music Student of the Month program is a recognition program that gives Morris County middle and high school music teachers the opportunity to recognize their students not only for the excellence as musicians, but for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to their entire school community. This year, a total of fifty-four students from Morristown HS, Morris Hills HS, West Morris Regional HS, Randolph HS, Madison HS, West Morris Mendham HS, Jefferson Twp. HS, Parsippany HS, Chatham HS, Morris Knolls HS, Parsippany Hills HS, Morristown Beard School, Mount Olive MS, Richard Butler School, Black River MS, Mountain View MS, Brooklawn MS, Copeland MS, Ridgedale MS, and Central MS, were recognized at Music Students of the Month. Twenty-three of those students participated in an end of year recital, held on Monday, June 9th onstage at MPAC, where they played a piece of their choosing and showcased their incredible talents.
