MPAC Celebrates Black History Month

February 11 2021

MPAC celebrates the many great achievements in the arts by Black performers and artists through February with a variety of events at the Theatre and online.

At MPAC

Art in the Atrium
Throughout February, MPAC is celebrating the works of local Black artists of Art in the Atrium by displaying several works on its exterior poster cases. As the Theatre’s art galleries are closed due to the pandemic, the exterior poster cases are an opportunity to bring the gallery outdoors to raise awareness of Art in the Atrium.  The display features works by Alonzo Adams, Lavett Ballard and Rosalind Nzinga Nichol.

For 29 years, Art in the Atrium has been celebrating excellence in Black art, with an annual exhibit at the Morris County. Art in the Atrium, Inc. (ATA) is a non-profit tax-exempt volunteer arts organization that was founded by Charles and Viki Craig in Morristown in 1991. Since its inception, ATA has annually exhibited African-American fine art in northern New Jersey, becoming the largest exhibit of its kind in the state. ATA annually awards a scholarship to a promising visual arts student. In 2001 and again in 2016, the organization was named “Arts Organization of the Year” by Morris Arts. Social Media

MPAC honors many of the wonderful Black artists who have graced our stage all month long on Facebook and Instagram. Every day, we feature a different artist who has performed at MPAC over the years. We have created a collaborative Spotify playlist that features notable tracks by the featured artists. The public is invited to enjoy and add their own favorites.
