Guest Attraction: New Jersey Symphony: Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony

In this first week of spring, you’ll feel the joy of being outdoors again in Beethoven’s Sixth (perhaps best known as his “Pastoral”) Symphony–even with a thunderstorm brewing on the horizon. Mozart casts bright bolts of sunshine in his Divertimento that spotlights the New Jersey Symphony’s superb strings, and in his Clarinet Concerto featuring Principal Clarinet Juan Esteban Martinez.

New Jersey Symphony: Joshua Bell Leads Mendelssohn’s “Italian”

Perhaps America’s finest violinist, Principal Guest Conductor Joshua Bell shows his astonishing range in this two-hour European tour: Mendelssohn’s surging Hebrides Overture finds Bell leading from the concertmaster seat; then he stands in the solo spotlight for Saint-Saëns’ Third Violin Concerto, tinged with Spanish flair; finally Bell takes the conductor’s podium for Mendelssohn’s ebullient “Italian” Symphony, full of sun-splashed melodies.
