Welcome to Fall at MPAC!

September 16 2016

We hope you had a great summer. Now’s the time to start making plans for the great events we have going on this fall.  Our official Opening Night is September 23 with Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth. Kristin’s back with a whole new performance, and it’s the same day she’s releasing her new CD! Last year, her performance could be summed up in three words – “Wow! Like, wow!” If you can't make the 23rd, Kristin returns on Saturday, September 24 for a repeat performance.

Classic Rock:
MPAC has some of your favorite classic rockers this fall. It all starts with George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Known best for the rock anthem “Bad to the Bone,” his tour is getting raves. Click here to read a review. Thorogood takes MPAC’s stage September 28.  Oct. 1, Graham Nash returns for a solo performance. Nash will perform classic Crosby Still & Nash music, Hollies hits and songs from his newest release.  The Doobie Brothers are back and “Takin’ It to the Streets” of Morristown for the first time in several years on October 12.  October 14, MPAC fave Peter Frampton returns in an entirely new concert experience – enjoy his hits in acoustic form. Sample it here. Limited tickets remain for Three Dog Night on Oct. 20.  Melissa Etheridge returns to MPAC on Oct. 22 with a whole new sound – well, it’s a new spin on a classic sound – Her MEmphis Rock & Soul Tour features music from her new CD that’s a tribute to Stax Records. Listen to her version of this Sam & Dave classic.

Rock & Pop:
The Pet Shop Boys are the highest selling rock/pop duo to come out of England — ever. Known for such hits as “West End Girls,” they are still making relevant music that’s topping the dance charts. Pet Shop Boys take the stage Nov. 10. Limited tickets remain for Ben Folds and a Piano, on September 18 and Andy Grammer and Gavin DeGraw on October 18.

Comedy:
If you enjoy old-time comedy, four greats brings the funny this fall. On Sept. 15, Don Rickles is joined by Regis Philbin for an evening of memories and laughs. November 5, Robert Klein and Rita Rudner co-headline. For the non-AARP crowd, try out the improv comedy of Upright Citizens Brigade on November 3. Co-founded by Amy Poehler, UCB creates their improv show on the spot—it’s a performance that’s never been done before and will never be done again. Tickets are just $25. And sorry, Amy will not be there.  NPR darling David Sedaris is back with more stories on October 5.
Jazz:
For those of you willing to take a cultural dare, we suggest you give Esperanza Spalding a try. The Grammy-winning jazz musician is back on October 8 in a bravura performance that’s both brave and  brash. Click here to sample the performance. Try not to miss the Havana Cuba All Stars on November 22. It’s one of those shows that you may gloss over when you see the big headliners on our schedule, but this show is going to be one amazing party. This is the first time these Cuban musicians will be on tour in North America. Anyone who loves great music and a great time will love this show.
Good times:
Speaking of parties, it’s always a dance party when The Mavericks come to town. Hot on the heels of their new live album, The Mavericks bring their dance party to MPAC on Oct. 26. Not to be outdone, guitarist Chris Isaak will have his own party here on November 11. The throwback shows of ABBA the Concert (Oct. 6) and Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute (Oct. 29) are also sure to be fun times.
Blues:
Need your blues fix? This Saturday features the Grammy-winning blues of The Robert Cray Band (Sept. 10). On November 15, Big Head Todd and the Monsters and three of the finest blues guitarists in the country team up to pay tribute to the music of Willie Dixon.
Family Events:
We have a couple of popular shows for the little ones this fall. Sesame Street Live returns with two shows on October 3 when “Elmo Makes Music” with his friends. November 19, The Octonauts, from Disney Junior, take audiences on a fun and exciting musical quest full of undersea adventures.
Great American Songbook:
You may know Alan Cumming from TV’s The Good Wife, but he’s also an accomplished Broadway star known best for his Tony-winning role in Cabaret.  Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs comes to MPAC on October 15.  October 28, Michael Feinstein sings classics from the Great American Songbook. That performance is sponsored by the Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation.
Health and Wellness:
After a summer of barbeques and picnics, ice cream and corn on the cob, now’s the time to think about getting in shape before the holidays. TV’s Dr. Oz will discuss health, wellness and better living on November 17. The lecture is sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Country:
Joe Nichols has had a string of hits since he started hitting the charts a few years ago.  From “The Impossible,” to “Brokenheartsville” to his recent hit “Undone,” Nichols makes his MPAC debut on October 13.  Kenny Rogers makes his farewell appearance on September 16. The show is sold out.
