Acting Classes

Acting Kids: Ages 6-8
Tuesdays 4:30-5:30 pm
Have fun learning the fundamentals of acting.  Gain stage presence and basic acting technique through theatre games, improvisation, and scenes.

Acting Workshop Junior: Ages 9-12
Tuesdays 5:30-7:00 pm
Acting technique for the young performer. Work on acting skills, stage presence, character development, and improvisation in a fun and creative atmosphere.

The Play’s The Thing – A new acting workshop for teens! Ages 13-18
Tuesdays 7:00-8:30 pm (with some additional rehearsal hours)
This new and exciting workshop for teens will focus on rehearsing and performing a play.  Learn solid acting technique and gain a strong foundation while rehearsing a one-act play to be performed at the end of the semester.

Improv Troupe: Ages 13-18
Wednesdays 7-8:30 pm
Registration by permission or audition only.  If you like improvisation comedy, this workshop is for you! Work on improv technique, theatre games, and exercises. The semester will culminate in a “Night at the Improv” performance. The assessment will be held the first day of class—all students interested should submit a registration form in advance of that first class

Tuesdays 4-5 pm or Wednesdays 4:30-5:30 pm
A fun introduction to musical theatre! Work on basic singing skills, movement, stage presence, and acting.

Mondays 4-5 pm or Tuesdays 5-6 pm
Young performers work on singing, dancing, and acting skills while working towards an end of semester performance.

Musical Theatre Workshop Junior: Ages 9-12
Mondays 5-6:30 pm or Wednesdays 5:30 – 7 pm
Musical Theatre technique for the young triple-threat performers! Students sharpen performance skills while working on solos, group numbers, and scenes from classic musicals.

Teen Musical Theatre Workshop: Ages 12-18
Mondays 7-8:30 pm
Musical Theatre workshop for the serious performer. Class focuses on song performance, scene study, and sharpening dance skills while working on solos, duets, and scenes from Broadway musicals.

Cabaret Workshop for Adults: Ages 18+
Wednesdays: Two times to choose from: 6:30-8 pm or 8-9:30 pm
Have you always wanted to sing in front of an audience?  We are please to offer this workshop under the direction of two NYC cabaret professionals! Each 8 week session culminates in a Starlight Room cabaret performance on the last week. For the beginner through accomplished performer.

Group Pop/Broadway Vocal Workshop: Ages 11-18
Wednesdays 5-6:30 pm
Do you want to sing like they do on Glee and American Idol? Then this class is for you. Work with professional vocal coaches on technique, song performance, harmony, and ear training. Class will work toward an end of semester cabaret style performance featuring solos and group numbers.

Sing Your Body: Vocal Technique for Adults : Ages 18+
Mondays 6:45-8:45 pm
This exciting workshop under the direction of critically acclaimed Soprano Alison Bolshoi will work on freeing the natural voice through a combination of body work and vocal technique. For singers of every style; beginner through accomplished performer.

Private Lessons

Voice Studio Private Lessons

Private and semi-private  lessons are available for 30 or 60 minutes on Mondays from 4:00 – 8:00 pm or Saturdays from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Strengthen personal vocal technique, expand your repertoire, and work on material selected specifically for you!

30 minute lesson $35 - Private
  $20 - Semi-private 2-3 students (sign up with a friend)
60 minute lesson $65 - Private

Broadway Kids Saturday: Ages 7-10
Saturdays 9-11 am
Have fun while working on musical theatre performance skills. This expanded workshop will include classes and workshops in singing, dancing, and acting while rehearsing for a polished end of semester performance!

Saturday Musical Theatre Workshop: Ages 10-15
Saturdays 11 am-2 pm
This exciting program covers many aspects of musical theatre performance while working toward a polished production. Students learn singing skills and song performance, acting, musical theatre dance, and much more. Learn from professional artists in an exciting and creative environment.  Guests include Broadway performers and industry professionals!

Saturday Musical Theatre Workshop Advanced: Ages 13-18
Saturdays 2-5 pm
Registration by permission or audition only. This program is meant for students who have been in the Saturday program for three or more semesters or who have similar professional level experience. Students will perfect their individual and ensemble performance skills using advanced material and curriculum in a conservatory style set-up. Auditions and Registration Info

Musical Theatre Workshop Advanced and Improv Troupe are by audition or permission only. Please call the Performing Arts School hotline (973-539-0345 X 6582) to schedule a Musical Theatre Workshop Advanced Audition. Improv Troupe assessments will be made on the first day of class, February 1st at 7pm – all students interested should submit a registration form in advance of that first class.

Registration will begin immediately and will be processed on a first come, first served basis. 10% discount for two classes or two family members; 15% discount for three classes or three family members. All classes must be paid for in full at the time of registration unless other arrangements have been made. All tuition is non-refundable after the first week of classes. A pro-rated tuition credit may be given if a student leaves a class no more than 2 weeks into the program. All tuition payments include a non-refundable $50 processing and registration fee. Limited scholarships available based on need.  Please call the hotline for more information.

What We Do:
Our comprehensive program is designed for students of all experience levels and focuses on individualizing each session to the specific participants.

Students spend their day taking classes in acting, singing, and dancing and rehearsing for a final fully-stage performance on our Community Theatre stage!

Who We Are:
The Mayo Center's Performing Arts School teachers are all experienced teaching artists and industry professionals from the New York/New Jersey area.  They hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in Theatre Arts, Music, Dance, Musical Theatre, and Education.
